Industry Outlook
Job availability in media is relatively limited due to the recent economic downturn. However, as firms seek to control costs going forward, they are increasingly contracting media/communications work to outside firms rather than leaving the responsibilities within the firm. As in advertising and media, job availability in public relations is limited due to the poor state of the economy. However, as firms seek to minimize costs going forward, they are contracting public relations work to outsiders rather than allowing company employees to complete the work. After an economic recovery, public relations employment should increase as firms seek to immediately gain a competitive edge via cheap advertising channels.
As companies are increasingly competing in a more global environment, PR experts with fluency in multiple languages are also in demand.
